Nintendo Comics System - Captain N: The Game MasterThe comic book stories of Captain N: The Game Master vary greatly from the television show of the same name. The only returning characters from the show's N-Team are Princess Lana, Kid Icarus, Kevin Keene (Captain N), and Duke. Mega Man and Simon Belmont were dropped from the N-Team and there is no appearance of Game Boy. Samus Aran, the female bounty hunter from Metroid, appeared to assist the Captain from time to time (although usually to further her own ends more than battle evil). Mother Brain's henchmen were shuffled around as well - Dr. Wily and the creatures of Castlevania do not appear in the comics. Instead, Uranos (a demi-god boss from Kid Icarus) joins the ranks of Eggplant Wizard and King Hippo. There are no cameo appearances by characters from other game worlds as there were on the cartoon. Characters from Metroid and Kid Icarus appear in some stories, usually working for Mother Brain. The N-Team visits other locations like Video-Town and Garbage World occasionally, but most of these places aren't based on any specific game. Link and Zelda never appear in the Captain N stories, but they do have their own comics (and they look about the same as they did in the cartoons). Princess Lana's role is very different in the comics as opposed to the cartoon. Here, she wields a Power Scepter (which was apparently in the concept art for the cartoon but only appeared in one episode as an ornament rather than a weapon). She actively fights alongside Kid, Kevin, and Duke. Instead of being the object of affection for both Simon and Kevin, Lana finds a rival in Samus (who wants Kevin to join her as a bounty hunter in space). All of the returning characters seem more mature than their cartoon counterparts (this is true of the Legend of Zelda comic series as well). It's possible that the comic world of Captain N is set after the cartoon ends, or perhaps it just follows an "alternate dimension" version of the same characters.
