October 2003 - 286 Signal Company Haunted House

Concolor's Army unit had a haunted house for the soldiers' children to enjoy, and they asked for volunteers to be "scary monsters" for the event. We didn't have 'scary' costumes, but we volunteered to dress as Team Rocket and the people in charge thought it was a great idea!

Here's how we fit into the scenario: Concolor brought along a stuffed Pikachu and we told the kiddies that, after all these years, we finally captured Pikachu! The problem was, the only way back to the Boss was through this scary room where there were lots of monsters! Could the kids find us a safe way out? Believe it or not, all the kids wanted to HELP Team Rocket steal the Pikachu!

Later on, the 'monsters' were having trouble getting the kids to look inside a box (where one soldier would stick his head out and yell), and the promise of a Yu-Gi-Oh "Egyptian God Card" wasn't enticing the kids. So we told them there was a "rare and valuable Pokemon" inside, and that did the trick! Afterwards, a few kids were ANGRY at us! "You lied to us! There wasn't a Pokemon in the box!" to which I replied, "Well, we are Team Rocket, what did you expect?" Concolor added, "You've learned a valuable lesson today: never trust anyone with blue hair."

All in all, the kids loved us, and we were mobbed before and after the haunted house tours. Aside from a few odd looks from Concolor's coworkers, everyone loved us. And it was a blast to actually get to ACT like the often-scared Team Rocket! Hmm, I wonder if we should hire ourselves out for birthday parties...
