Spriter's ChallengeThe Spriter's Challenge was a contest run every two weeks from April 2005 to April 2006. Every two weeks, entrants could submit their best sprites for a specific theme of Pokemon spriting, grades and critiques were given, and special awards given to the three best sprites of the contest. There will not be any additional Spriter's Challenges for several reasons. The first reason is that running a biweekly contest for a year became draining. It was difficult to come up with clever new contest ideas, sort the entries, carefully pick all the sprites apart and give constructive criticism, and create awards. It felt too much like work. Especially when a lot of people seemed unappreciative. The second reason I'm ending these contests is because of all the complaining - people complained about everything from the difficulty of the contests, to the speed of the judging, to the fact that I only accepted the first 20 entries sent after the contest opened. This site is something that I publish for fun. These demands coupled with the time invested in these challenges managed to suck all the fun out of running this part of the site. It is unlikely that I will ever run an event like the Spriter's Challenge again, but there may be other spriting and artwork contests that spring up from time to time. Thank you to everyone who supported the Spriter's Challenge during its run, but this portion of the site will no longer be updated. |
