Katamari Fortissimo Damacy - Game Soundtrack
Overview
Let me start by saying this: Katamari music isn't for everyone. People looking for epic soundtrack music or big orchestral wiz-bang should look elsewhere. People who hate listening to Japanese lyrics will probably not be fans, since the majority of the lyrics aren't in English. What the Katamari soundtracks do have is a great deal of variety. The music featured on this album (and the soundtrack for the sequel, We Love Katamari) contains a variety of genres so you won't get bored.
Listenability
Katamari is good background music that won't put you to sleep. It's lively and upbeat, and there's a good balance between the lyrics and background music. The tracks are longer than most raw game music, so it feels more like "real" music than most game soundtracks.
It's a good soundtrack to put on while you're doing something that doesn't require intense focus - it's fun background music for cleaning the house, working on a creative project, or exercising. It's probably not something to listen to while solving math problems, reading, or napping. It can be distracting if you're trying to concentrate. This can be excellent driving music - just be sure that you don't try to roll up other cars or construction cones on the freeway.
Standout Tracks
Lonely Rolling Star is a most excellent song, as is the title theme (Katamari on the Rock). There is one track entirely in English (Que Sera Sera). There are several nice instrumental tracks, but Katamari Stars is the prettiest. The King's theme (Fugue #7777) is a great majestic song (especially if you've played the game). Most people are going to have their own favorites, as there are few unpleasant tracks on the CD.
Bad/Disjointed Tracks
Last Samba is grating, with the loud whistling noises, and I'm not particularly fond of You Are Smart either. Stardust Fanfare is the only non-musical (sound effect) track.

Final Thoughts
There is a nice selection of music to be found on the Katamari Damacy soundtrack. It doesn't immediately strike you as game music and works fine out of the context of the Katamari games. This is one of the soundtracks I listen to most frequently.
