Chell from Portal - Costume Overview and FAQ

Chell

Rather than write up a whole tutorial on how I put this costume together (since it's not that big or involved), here are some of the highlights of how I made my Chell costume and accessories.

The jumpsuit: made from broadcloth and constructed from two patterns - a fitted dress shirt and a pair of capri pants sewn together at the waist.

The jumpsuit details: skinny lines and edging done with double-fold bias tape. The belt, name tape, and Aperture logo were done with two thicknesses of white twill, and it was difficult to match the white fabric to the white bias tape. Aperture logo attached to back of top with WonderUnder fusible. Name tape letters done with iron-on transfer paper.

The heelsprings: made from FunFoam, floral wire, and hot glue. Still trying to find a way to wear these (I had to use duct tape at All-Con). Spirit gum will NOT hold these on your legs!

The Portal gun: made by Concolor from PVC pipe painted black, and two watering cans cut up and painted white.

Companion Cube: Info and pics coming soon.

The cake: not a lie.
